Jumping into unchartered waters

Every day most of us are challenged to jump into unchartered waters. Our lives are acts of faith, whether it seems God is asking us to wade in a shallow brook or swim across an ocean.

Faith most often happens in the simple things. Every time I pick up a paintbrush, it is an act of faith. During art seminars and retreats, the question I am most asked is, "How do you know what to paint?" Well, there is no formula, except to be totally open to Holy Spirit's direction.Faith like a Child

Sometimes I begin with only sensing a color or two, and that is where the faith kicks in. I begin to "play with the colors" until more comes. Typically, an idea or image in my mind will eventually take shape on the canvas. It can be an intimidating creative process, especially if I feel all eyes are on my strokes and canvas. But He gives me a supernatural grace to avoid the fear of man and actually enjoy the experience of co-creating with the Creator.

By exercising that childlike faith and belief in His power and direction, all of us can allow Holy Spirit to release His creativity in us. (Studies show that ninety percent of five-year-olds operate in high creativity, but only two percent of adults operate in high creativity!) Our increase of faith results in a surge of creative response to anything we put our hands to and we experience first hand that without faith it is impossible to please Him (Hebrews 11:6).

Believe
Believe
Jesus always lived by "revelation" sense, not by  common sense. Common sense can be a stumbling block to our stepping out in faith. Oswald Chambers said, "Common sense and faith are as different from each other as the natural life is from the spiritual, and as impulsiveness is from inspiration. The life of faith brings the two of these into the proper relationship."

As an artist, I have frequently wondered why I painted what I did. At one conference, all I could picture in my mind was a peacock feather. I felt rather silly painting it because it just didn't make sense. But two days later a woman told me that she had had a vision of peacock feathers surrounding the worship team the day I painted the feathers. The Lord told her they represented His all seeing eye. It was one of those aha moments!

Let faith rise up as you jump into those unchartered waters. You, too, will experience your aha moments.
